During the 2018 – 2019 school year, newsprung‘s focus will narrow from the larger Deep South to the state of Alabama only during our Bicentennial. Alabama was established as a territory in 1817 and achieved statehood in 1819, and the Alabama 200 program is actively commemorating our history and celebrating our culture over the three years 2017, 2018, and 2019.
newsprung is produced by the Creative Writing magnet at Booker T. Washington Magnet High School in Montgomery, Alabama. The project’s original Joomla! web-publishing format was re-designed in 2015 as a blog with the multi-faceted goal of promoting the best writing, visual art, and fine-art photography being created by high school students and their teachers in the Deep South. In addition to posts written by our students, newsprung will also include information about contests, workshops, publication opportunities, and community events. New posts are published weekly on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday during the months from August through May.
newsprung can be found on Facebook and also on Tumblr, and the Creative Writing magnet has accounts on Instagram and Twitter with the username @booktw_cw.
