While we’ve been away: summer 2017

Earlier this summer, the Arts Schools Network announced their award-winners, and we at newsprung want to congratulate the following schools, colleges, and educators in the Deep South:

The LaVilla School of the Arts in Jacksonville, Florida received the Arts Innovation Award “for taking artistic risks in using the arts in teaching academic, and for making a positive difference in the lives of students and the community.”

The Higher Education Award, “which recognizes postsecondary institutions or arts partnership programs in higher education for their continuous support of the sustainability of quality arts education in K-12 schools,” went to Valerie B. Morris, Dean of the College of Charleston School of the Arts in South Carolina.

And the Jeffrey Lawrence Award to Kyle Wedberg, President and CEO of NOCCA, “for his uncompromising commitment to excellence in arts education and arts training.”

ASN’s Exemplary Schools for 2017 – 2019 included:
Chattanooga High School Center for the Creative Arts
Howe Hall Arts Infused Magnet School
The Mississippi School of the Arts
The South Carolina Governors School for the Arts & Humanities

In late June, the Creative Writing department at the Alabama School of Fine Arts tweeted out this great news:

Congratulations to Hannah and to ASFA CW!
