Photography: The Lock

When Cet-Ki Williams took this untitled photograph of a lock on an early nineteenth-century barn, showing its age and starting to fall down, he was visiting family in a Montgomery, Alabama suburb where everyone knows one other. The photo was taken with a 35 mm film camera and was initially printed on 3″ x 5″ photographic paper, using a 3-1/2″ contrast filter. Williams had to complete the process three times to have the photo to come out correctly.
